I'm with you, calling someone stupid is way worse in my eyes than the slip of a damn or shit here and there. One of the assistants in Graham's class keeps telling him he's bad and then denying it and I pulled him out of school those days since I just don't like someone talking to him like that. If anyone's gonna break him, it's me. ;)

I've come across a few teachers like this too...it's so discouraging. My sister and I have very different parenting views - her children were always allowed to say things my son was not. It was a hard lesson to teach my son that some words are not okay to say, but he will hear other people use them.

Would it work for Claire to think of names like silly-pants or stickles or something that sounds close to 'stupid' but is NOT actually mean??
Sometimes, we (Paxon and I) try to come up with 'other' words for the words he wants to say, but is not allowed. It's kind of a fun game ;)

I had a run in with a little girl at day care a few weeks ago. When we arrived apparently we were not who she was hoping to see and blurted out "Oh, it's just stupid Addison." Um, excuse me!? Did you just call my baby "stupid"? Our provider jumped that little brat's shit. I wanted to take her out back and beat her! LOL

I am so sorry you had that experience. It's teachers like that that shouldn't be teaching anyways. My dad used to call me stupid when I was little, and he said all through school I would tell him I was stupid and didn't get it. He said he has never (and still does to this day) feel so bad for saying something so hurtful that just sticks with you. I too, will not tolerate it, and I commend you mama....

Man, good for you! I feel the exact same way. My dad used to call us stupid all the time and there is nothing more belittling or damaging to a young child. I couldn't agree with you more.
